Synopsis

Inspired by a boxed collection of rare recordings of the Marching songs of troops of the Nigeria Regiment in Burma, during World War 2, discovered in a private collection early in 2019. This documentary is essentially an extended music video bringing to life the lives and humanity behind the voices in the 74 year old records. Serving essentially as a memorial, the documentary places their powerful voices in a contemporary context and explores the stories of these long forgotten warriors, with readings from great books detailing the African war experience, by the authors, family members, and scholars. These include Prof David Killingray, Prof Saheed Aderinto, Barnaby Philips, Capt Kola King, Dr Oliver Coates, Biyi Bandele, Obi Asika, Ruth Bourne, Chief Keith Richards, Dr Yewande Okuleye, Aduke Gonez and many more. The documentary also features archival footage, images, and powerful personal accounts laid to the haunting voices of long-deceased warriors singing of their pain, joy, determination and quest for memorial and acknowledgment
